Alderman Pounder School rewarded
17 June, 2009
Alderman Pounder Infant School in Beeston will get £500 from Nottinghamshire County Council as a reward for achieving a top environmental award this month.
It received the top Eco-Schools Green Flag Award from environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy. Every Nottinghamshire school that gets this top award receives £500 from the Council to spend on further environmental improvements.
Eco-Schools have a pupil committee that measures the school’s environmental performance and encourages the whole school to make changes. To get the Green Flag, schools have to cover environmental issues in at least three subjects, be working on at least three environmental projects, have little or no litter and have good internal and external communications about environmental matters.
To keep their Green Flag, schools have to be reassessed every two years. Other Nottinghamshire schools that already have the award will each get £500 from the Council when they are successfully reassessed.
Councillor Richard Butler, Cabinet Member for Environment and Sustainability, said: “Pupils and staff have put in a lot of hard work to get this award and should be proud of their achievement. Like the other Green Flag schools, they will now be getting £500 to spend on further environmental improvements.”
