Still chance to apply for One Planet Living Award

20 March, 2008

b-and-q-one-planet-awards-march Time is running out to apply for one of B&Q’s One Planet Living Awards.

The awards offer between £1,000 and £10,000 of B&Q products to organisations, who are working on projects that aim to enhance the local community or help us to return to ‘One Planet Living’.

One Planet Living is based on the premise that if we continue to live as we do in the UK, we will need three planets to maintain our way of life and, of course, we only have one. We have to lower our impact on the planet and our use of its natural resources.

Community Based Projects

Awards of up to £10,000 of B&Q products are up for grabs for community-based projects which can demonstrate that their project falls into one of the following categories:

The Environment/energy saving: projects which will help contribute to the health of the planet through the reduction of energy use or an active effort to limit their environmental footprint.

Natural habitats and wildlife: projects which will support, protect and celebrate the natural habitats in local communities including community gardens, meadows, wetlands, chalk rivers and forests.

Local culture/heritage: projects which will support, enhance and celebrate valuable aspects of local culture and heritage including its roots and traditions, local buildings, local building techniques, local produce and local arts and crafts.

Two Awards

In addition, B&Q is offering two awards of £5,000 combined cash/product to schools which submit innovative science-based proposals, showing a real understanding about the environment and the importance of tackling climate change.

A great chance for primary and secondary school students to think creatively about how we can protect the future of our planet. Schools are also eligible to enter under any of the above categories.

”Meaningful ways in our communities”

Claire Finch, B&Q Community Advisor, said: “At B&Q we are committed to supporting One Planet Living and this awards programme allows us to do that in a meaningful way in our communities.

“Our aim is to make the application process as straightforward and as inclusive as possible so this is a real opportunity for us to help our customers make a significant contribution to their local areas.”

The closing date for entries to the One Planet Living Award scheme is Friday, March 28.

To apply for an award, visit www.diy.com/awards to download an application form, or alternatively, call the B&Q application hotline number on 0845 300 1001.
