Barn Owl Project a success

30 July, 2007

barn-owls The first-ever Barn Owls have been born in the barn owl boxes installed by local volunteers.

Members of the Broxtowe Borough Barn Owl Project have put up 25 boxes over the last couple of years as well as two Tree Sparrow feeders.

Barn Owls are a protected species and without the help of such groups would struggle to survive in the area as a lot of the natural habitats have been lost.

The Nature Conservation Strategy for Broxtowe is coming to an end during 2007 and the Council is currently preparing a new five-year Nature Conservation Action Plan.

The plan will set out actions the Council and local groups throughout the Borough are involved in to help conserve and enhance the areas natural heritage for the benefit of people and wildlife.
