Plans for former Barton site revealed
09 November, 2007
The disused bus depot between High Road and Queen’s Road could be transformed into a £50m place to live, work and play.
Homes, offices, shops, bars, restaurants and a health and fitness centre are set to be built, if the scheme is approved and would be known as the ‘Barton Quarter’.
The 11-acre site, which is still owned by Bartons, has been vacant since 1989, but does still house the company’s headquarters.
Plans include the building of 107 town houses and apartments, offices and leisure facilities, grouped around a square and large landscaped green.
The work is expected to take five years to complete and would create 700 jobs.
The proposals also incorporate solar panels, local energy generation, water conservation and roofs with plants on top to attract birds.
