Castle College Art and Design students, including 20-year-old Sarah Noon, are completing the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at the Arthur Mee Centre in Stapleford.

As part of their course they visited the Fashion, Arts and Media Day at Leicester’s De Montfort University.

Gain Advice

They met many companies from the world of Fashion and Art, including those from the Arcadia group (Top Shop, Burton’s, Next); giving them a real opportunity to gain advice about how to get ahead in the industry and explore future options for university or going straight into a design job.

Lecturer Carolynn Aitken, said: “The students had an amazing day, but the highlight was meeting Zandra Rhodes.

“We had to leave early, which would have meant missing listening to her lecture in the afternoon. We asked if we could have a short chat with her so the students could ask her questions, and in the end we had half an hour and a coffee with her. It was fantastic! She is a very grounded individual and the students learned a lot from her’.

”Truly devoted to her work”

“Sarah Noon, added: “Zandra Rhodes is truly devoted to her work and dedication on this scale is only something I can hope to gain through continuing to develop my skills.

“To know that someone at this level has bad days but gets on with it nonetheless to produce work she is proud of, is something I will carry with me to spur me on for the days I feel like giving in. Talking to Zandra was a wonderfully valuable experience.”
