Beeston Youth gets ASBO

11 April, 2008

On Thursday, April 10, 2008, Broxtowe Borough Council, in partnership with Nottinghamshire Police, successfully obtained an Anti Social Behaviour Order (ASBO)on 15-year-old Jamie Saywell of Dennis Avenue, Beeston.

Between May 26, 2007 and February 6, 2008 the defendant Jamie Saywell was involved in numerous incidents of anti social behaviour within the Borough of Broxtowe including association in a serious assault on August 10, 2007, shouting abuse at shop staff on September 24, 2007 and December 31, 2007 and physical assault at Alderman White School on February 4, 2008.

”Violent and disruptive”

The Judge, in summing up, stated: “The group he associates with go well beyond childhood mischief, their behaviour is often violent and disruptive and causes harassment, alarm and distress to members of the public. The key to prevention is to isolate him from the group and the areas where the problems have occurred.”

It was also decided that reporting restrictions would be relaxed due to the nature of his behaviour and so businesses and members of the public would be better able to identify and report any breaches of the order.
