Formerly known as the Blue Bell Carvery, this pub/restaurant has recently been completely refurbished.
Not having been to the establishment since around 1985, but now living back in NG9, I noticed all the building work being carried out and was intrigued the new sign ‘Two For One’ in violent colours displayed outside.
Having family coming over and the weather inclement for a barbecue it proved an opportunity too good to miss for a value-for-money-experience that hopefully wouldn’t break the bank.
The staff were very helpful, the menu was comprehensive - easy to read and understand.
The food was well cooked, well presented although perhaps there could have been more of it?
My sirloin steak was perfect, as was my husband’s – cooked exactly as ordered. My daughter’s fish and chips lovely and the steak and ale pie went down well, although the mash potato tasted very bland and ‘made out of a packet’. The scampi was also cooked well.
The desserts were truly scrumptious, if not a little ‘rich’ but if you love puddings, you’ll like these!
Not being a great pudding lover, I was disappointed though to find there wasn’t cheese and biscuits on the menu.
The drinks were fine, except the glasses could have done with a polish!
Only comment was that the drinks and food had to be paid for separately, and we all felt it would be easier, if we could have opened a ‘tab’ and settled the bill at the end.
We had arrived for lunch fairly early, but by the time we left, the place was packed!
Overall rating: A value-for-money, good eating experience where the main meal leaves plenty of room for the dessert. 4/5
