Body of missing Stapleford man recovered

Eric Smith, aged 72, had not been seen since he left his home in Merton Court, Stapleford, in the early hours of Easter Saturday, March 22, 2008.
In the intervening time officers have carried out numerous searches for Mr Smith and followed up many lines of enquiry.
At around 3pm Saturday April 5, 2008, a man’s body was discovered by a canoeist in the River Trent, near Trent Bridge, West Bridgford.
The man has since been identified as Eric Smith and his family has been informed.
A post mortem examination has been carried out, which concluded Mr Smith died of natural causes.
