Cyclist leaves boy with broken leg

13 August, 2007

A two-year-old received a broken leg after being knocked over by a cyclist in Beeston.

York Yeo had been in the town shopping with his grandmother Linda Yeo, when he was hit by the cyclist and the bike subsequently went over his leg.

The incident happened on the pedestrian area, near to McDonalds, on Beeston High Road.

Description

The cyclist is described as a woman of oriental appearance, wearing a white top and khaki bottoms. She was riding a burgundy coloured bike with white mud guards.

Police are checking CCTV footage to see if the incident was captured on film.

Cyclists are banned from riding along Beeston High Road between 10am and 4pm, but since June, four pensioners have needed hospital treatment for minor injuries after being struck by bikes in the zone.

The latest accident follows a series of police crackdowns where 30 cyclists were fined for riding illegally.

Anyone with information should contact PC Rosser or any officer at Beeston Police Station, on 0115 9670999 ext 5662 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
