Brock and Brooke, Broxtowe Borough Council’s badger mascots, raised over £300 for charity again when they took part in the annual Mascot Gold Cup race at Wetherby racecourse. This is the third year the Council Mascots have taken part and they have not only raised money for charity but have promoted the Council’s waste and recycling initiatives.
Brock and Brooke were joined by 94 other mascots from around the UK who travelled to Wetherby Race Course to take part. They raced along the final furlong of the racetrack, and stumbled over six small fences, much to the amusement of the 10,000 Wetherby Family Day race crowd.
40 Employees
Final positions have not yet been confirmed although they did not finish last. Over 40 employees accompanied the mascots from the Council’s Works Department and travelled to the course to support the event. Of the £300 raised for charity, £30 will go to Sue Ryder Care and £270 for the Mayors Charity, which this year supports the NSPCC.
Competitors who joined Brock and Brooke included Taylor the Yorkshire Tea Teapot, Leeds United mascot Lucas the Kop Cat, and TV advert characters Lamby and Beefy.
Brock and Brooke feature heavily in the Council’s waste and recycling promotional material as they help to get across the Council’s important waste minimisation and recycling messages.
