Chilwell author shares stories

18 July, 2007

chilwell-author-visit A Chilwell writer has been telling of the inspiration which led to her work being published.

Val Keye won a BBC Reading and Writing (RAW) competition with her children's story, 'Sammy Bear's Day Out’, which has been published in a special book of BBC bedtime stories.

However, she took time out to share her knowledge and advice on writing and entering competitions with Literacy students from Castle College, who have been studying Creative Writing.

Val said: “I have always had a passion for writing. A bad experience put me off writing for a while, and I thought my writing was not good enough.

“Then I attended a writing class in Long Eaton and the teacher there was such an inspiration that I was encouraged to write again. All these students have the ability to achieve what they want to as well.”

The group have produced a book of their poems and short stories, with a competition for the best piece of work.
