Christmas Festives in Beeston

The CHRISTMAS spirit was underway in Nottingham’s busiest cities, as they switched their lights on and indulged in festive activities.
On Saturday 28th November, Beeston attracted a wave of visitors, at the annual Christmas light switch on.
With a record of a spectacular 6,500 visitors, Beeston kicked the day of at 2.30pm at Broadgate Park. With something for everyone, music was played by ‘Oriole Jazz and youngsters could meet Santa Claus and his Christmas Elves, along with rides for both youngsters and adults.
However this was not the only event on. On the opposite side of Beeston, there was an elective mix of entertainment and activities, at Beeston Square. Alongside this, visitors enjoyed a specially commissioned dance by Manushi Dancers, led by a local resident, Indian Dance Specialist, Vina Ladwa.
As floods of visitors arrived at 4.55pm, they were welcomed to sensational songs by Nottingham Pop Choir. Nottingham Pop Choir who meet weekly in Beeston, sang pop classics and is hoping to recruit new members. It is advised to readers to contact Broxtowe Borough Council, if interested.After performing outstandingly at this year’s Proms in the Park, Mood Indigo were back to perform in Beeston. Their 30 minute performance included a selection of jazz and lounge music as well as the occasional sensational swinging tune, reminiscent of Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack era.
The heart of the day was at 5.00pm, when Borough of Broxtowe’s Mayor, Councilor John Longdon, accompanied radio gurus, Emma and Twiggy, from 96 Trent FM for the grand light switch on. Following this visitors viewed a fantastic firework display. The evening continued, as Midlands’ best soul and dance band, Soul X’press performed live on stage in the Foster Avenue Car Park. Soul Xpress, a five piece band, covered music tunes from Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Gloria Gaynor, The Supremes and much more.
