Petition for road safety at Depot Corner

19 March, 2008

A petition has been signed by more than 280 people in an attempt to have road safety measures installed in Chilwell.

Since Nicola Treagus moved into 402 High Road, near Depot Corner, she says the house had been hit over six times by various vehicles, including one serious accident.

She set up a meeting for other local residents to discuss the situation and so far it has resulted in an anti skid surface being laid.

”Highlighted other accidents”

Nicola Treagus told NG9: “From those attending our meetings it highlighted there had been other accidents that happen higher up Attenborough Lane.

“It also highlighted a problem where cars are pulling out of or into Charles Avenue and Hardwick Close.

“We have had Mark McClaren from the Highways Department out to look at the road and corner, to see what can be done to help prevent further accidents.

”Confirmed”

“Richard Jackson the county councillor has confirmed there will be temporary 30mph signs put up along Attenborough Lane.”

There has also been a series of Speedwatch campaigns with more due to happen in the near future.

Nicola continues: “This involves someone standing with a speed gun and if people are found to be going over the 30mph speed limit, they will have a letter sent to them saying that they have been caught out, however they will not get points or a fine.

”Make people more aware”

“We are hoping that this will make people more aware of the speed that they are doing along the road and hopefully slow them down in future.

“I am aware that a few people in the local area have received these letters, we will have to wait to see if it makes any difference.

”Pleased with the progress so far”

“We are pleased with the progress so far, however we will continue to campaign.

“At the last meeting we agreed that what would help to sort the problems out would be further signs, such as the slow down and sharp bend flashing signs and pedestrian crossings.

“So far we have over 280 names on the petition, but would like more if possible.”

Petition

Anyone wanting to sign a petition to have more safety measures implemented, they can do so at The Charlton Arms, Worsley Chemist and Kennel Gate Pet Shop. All of these are on the High Road.
