The male Lakeland terrier appeared to have had had his tail docked illegally according to the vet.
The dog that has been named Brownie by the wardens is likely to need an operation to rectify the damaged caused. Docking of tails has been illegal since the Animal Welfare Act 2006 came into force.
Fostered
The highways agency had caught the dog which had been seen running between Junction 26 and Junction 25 of the M1 on Sunday, March 29 and currently he is now being fostered by the Animal Accident Rescue Unit.
Brownie will be looking for a new home once he has recovered from his operation.
Broxtowe Borough Council Neighbourhood Wardens are reporting an increase in the number of dogs being abandoned currently and want to remind anyone considering getting a dog that it should not be entered into lightly.
Think carefully
With an average lifespan of 15 years it is important to think carefully before getting a pet and find out about the costs and responsibilities to ensure the animal is guaranteed a happy healthy life.
