Motorists to expect Donington Download Delays
12 June, 2008
All passengers, visitors and staff are being urged to allow plenty of extra time when travelling to East Midlands Airport (EMA), as thousands travel to Donington Park for the Download Music Festival this weekend. Major roads and motorways leading to this venue are likely to be busy from Friday, June 13, to Sunday, June 15.
Working with organisers
The Airport has been working with the organisers for several months and a traffic management system has been put in place to minimise delays. The traffic plan is designed to make it easier for spectators to get in and out of Donington Park, and to reduce delays for other road users.
During the weekend it is expected that traffic will be heavier than usual. Passengers should allow extra time and follow the traffic management in place.
No right turn
In order to aid traffic flow from the event on Monday, June 16, there will be no right turn out of the main airport entrance. All passengers wishing to turn right out of the airport’s main entrance can do so by turning left and following the short diversion.
Surface Access Manager at East Midlands Airport, Colleen Hempson said “We always recommend that our customers check-in at least two hours before their flight is due to depart.
”Allow even more time”
“With the extra cars on the road this weekend, we are advising people to allow even more time in planning their journey to and from the airport.
“We don’t want people to miss their flight or aircraft to be delayed, so the more prepared you can be – the better”.
