Extra Special Music Group

25 June, 2008

extra-special-music-group Applications are being invited for youngsters to join a music group in September.

The Extra Special Music Group is a weekly fun music group for preschool children (from age 2 upwards) who have communication difficulties and may find it hard to take part in other community activities.

The group uses songs, chants and all sorts of musical games, following the children’s interests and ideas to motivate them and engage them with the group.

This small group of up to eight children get together on Wednesday mornings in Beeston in term time.

Free

The sessions are free to Broxtowe Borough residents but those living outside the area pay a small charge (£2 a week).

Other activities will include a ‘listening box’, exploring sounds, playing percussion instruments, circle games and enjoying props and puppets.

The group is led by Wendy Prevezer who trained as a speech and language therapist and a musician.

Music specialist

She has worked as a music specialist for over twenty years at Sutherland House School for children with autism, and runs the Early Years Music Groups in Beeston.

She is assisted in The Extra Special Music Group by Roma Seth, a local teacher and musician who has played all over the country in a number of original and cover bands, and now runs her own pre-school music group ‘Rockabillies’ in Attenborough.

Parents and carers can obtain an application form for the September session or obtain further information by contacting Broxtowe Borough Council on 0115 917 3695 or email clare.janes@broxtowe.gov.uk
