Teacher takes year out for charity
04 July, 2007
In September, Helen Prudhoe a Year 4 teacher at Fairfield Primary School is taking a year’s leave to work for a Christian charity - Oasis Trust.
The purpose of her visit is to work on the Purnata Bhavan Project, which is situated near Igatpuri, a mountain village close to Mumbai.
The project is a rehabilitation service for women and children who have been affected by HIV, either that they have the virus themselves or have lost family through it and so are socially vulnerable.
Miss Prudhoe is now trying to raise £5,500 to fund her flights, injections, language tuition and general living costs for the time she is there.
Pupils at Fairfield have organised a fund-raising day on Monday, July 16 and will be attending school in fancy dress or anything beginning with ‘P’ and will donated £1 for the privilege.
Also, during the day, the children will be able to buy cakes for 20p each.
The Year 4 children will also be organising a used book sale, which will take place on the playground at lunchtime and after school.
