How the new Fire Station will look
Building work on a brand new fire station covering the Beeston, Dunkirk and Clifton areas is due to begin this month.Contractors are expected to move onto the site at Hassocks Lane for a period of 12 months and will result in a £5 million station, purpose-built to accommodate some of the most modern rescue equipment.
A total of 110 firefighters from Dunkirk and Beeston fire stations will operate from the Hassocks Lane station with three fire engines, plus specialist vehicles and heavy rescue equipment designed to attend major accidents and incidents involving particularly unusual or complex rescue. Both existing stations will remain open and fully operational until they are ready to move across to their new base.
Respect the environment
The station will include the very latest features to respect and support the environment where possible. It has committed to a sustainable water policy which ensures the collection and usage of ‘grey water’ for training and vehicle washing.
The development will give Nottinghamshire its first completely brand new fire station in a new location for over 20 years, offering a new facility for local people to use and enjoy.
Community Room
The station has been designed to provide a community room which can be booked - free of charge - by groups, clubs and individuals looking for a local venue to hold events and meetings.
Residents have already played their part in helping to make sure the room - which will seat 120 people and will be fitted with audio-visual equipment - will be useful to them, by giving their views on its design at a public consultation event last autumn.
”Meets our Needs”
Andy Beale, Assistant Chief Fire Officer, told NG9 : “Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service has put a great deal of thought and planning into this new station at Hassocks Lane to make sure that it meets our needs, and those of the local community now, and in the future.
“We will naturally have the very latest technology and equipment to help us deliver a first-class emergency response service, but the building has also been designed to welcome local people in. This will reinforce our place at the heart of the local community, and improve the partnership which helps us to keep people safe in their homes, at work and on the roads.”
