Attenborough Flood Defence Wall on September Agenda

15 August, 2007

THE Environment Agency's planning application to build a flood defence wall along The Strand at Attenborough is expected to be on the September agenda of Broxtowe Borough Council's Development Control Committee.

The flood defence wall along the Strand is part of the Nottingham Trent Left Bank Flood Alleviation Scheme.

The application had originally been on the August agenda but The Environment Agency asked council planners to postpone their decision.

"Viable Option"

A spokesman for the Environment Agency told NG9: “The only viable option available to reduce the flood risk to over 15,000 properties in Nottingham is to construct a new flood wall through the Site of Special Scientific Interest from Trent Meadows to Beeston.

“As a result, as part of our proposals we want to undertake work to improve habitats in a number of locations.

“We have been working closely with Natural England regarding these improvements throughout the planning process.

“As a result of our discussions with Natural England, the planning committee meeting has been delayed.

“We are now anticipating a planning committee meeting towards the end of September.”
