Football team cap off outstanding season

02 June, 2008

football-team-cap-off Castle College’s Football Development Centre squad have capped off an outstanding first season by securing an English Colleges Football Association Championship title.

After a long season, on May 14, the College took its squad to Oxford knowing that victory would seal the League 4 Championship.

The team took this opportunity with both hands and completed a fantastic season with a dominant 5–0 victory.

Unbeaten

During the season the team have scored a massive 53 league goals in 14 games, whilst only conceding 16. Astonishingly, they also went on unbeaten in the league until April 9, defeating teams like City College Birmingham, who are linked to last seasons premiership team Birmingham City, and Worcester College.

Not only has the winning of the league been rewarding for the players, but a number of them are attracting attention from league and non–league clubs.

Highlights

Highlights include eight players recruited to the Notts County Reserve team, four players have been recruited to Boston United’s First and Youth teams, and the fact that Markell Bailey, from Carlton, has been chosen to play in the England Schools’ Football Association Under 18 Schoolboy squad.

Considering this is the team’s first year their achievements have been remarkable.

The Football Development Centre is now receiving applications for next season due to its growing reputation. Pre season starts again on Tuesday, August 5.
