Garden waste and glass reycling to be re-introduced

15 November, 2007

Monthly garden and glass recycling collections are being reintroduced by Broxtowe Borough Council December.

Last year Broxtowe residents recycled over 200 tonnes of glass using the kerbside scheme.

Broxtowe’s kerbside glass is either recycled back into new bottles and jars or is used as aggregates in road building.

‘Waste and Recycling’

A new autumn update of the ‘Waste and Recycling’ leaflet has been distributed to Borough residents. The leaflet includes information on the collection arrangements for garden and glass, along with details of the Christmas collection schedule.

Glass can be put out for collection in the black bin the day after it has been emptied of general waste.

The new leaflet details the collection days and residents are urged to check when their recycling days are.

Colours can be mixed

All glass colours can be mixed together and it doesn’t matter if any of the glass gets broken when putting it in the bin. Glass should be placed loose in the black bin and should not be in a bag.

Councillor Stan Heptinstall, Cabinet member for Technical and Works Services at Broxtowe Borough Council said: “With the reintroduction of monthly winter garden and glass collections it is hoped that even more residents will use the schemes.

“This will enable them to recycle more than ever before from their doorstep. This will help to push the Council’s recycling rate above 40%, which will be a fantastic achievement.

”Residents fantastic efforts"

“It is due our residents enthusiastic efforts that we have reached this figure and with their continued support we will achieve even better results.” For further information about the scheme contact the Recycling Section on 0115 9173660.
