Actress nominated for Derby Playhouse role

West End actress Julie-Alanah Brighten has been nominated for a TMA award for her role in Derby Playhouse’s acclaimed production of Merrily We Roll Along.

Julie-Alanah, who played Gussie Carnegie in the Stephen Sondheim musical, has been nominated for Best Supporting Role in a Musical. This follows the Playhouse’s nomination for Into The Woods (Best Musical) at the 2006 awards. Both productions were directed by Joint Artistic Director Karen Louise Hebden, and reinforces Derby Playhouse’s reputation for producing exceptional Sondheim shows.

Previously Nominated

Julie-Alanah has previously been nominated for a ‘What’s On Stage’ award, for her performance in Tell Me On A Sunday at the Geilgud Theatre. She also played Belle in the original cast of Beauty and the Beast, amongst many other leading roles in the West End.

The Theatre Management Association, who present the awards, offers support to its members through advice on developing the arts and offering general advice. The awards celebrate the very best in British theatre, and are supported by Equity and The Stage. They are split into fourteen categories including awards specifically for Opera, Dance, Plays and Musicals.

The winners will be announced on Sunday 21 October at Hampstead Theatre.
