'Have a say' event a success
04 June, 2008
Representatives of Broxtowe Borough Council and Nottinghamshire County Council gave local businesses and shoppers the opportunity to view plans for a proposed facelift for the High Road area of Beeston town centre at a special event held on Saturday 24 May. Chris Timson, a local businessman and Chair of the Beeston Business Forum which has backed the proposals, said ”Although people may feel that the High Road isn’t in desperate need of improvements, we need to think about what other towns around us are doing as this is our competition.
“Like in business, if Beeston doesn’t keep up with its competitors, many of who have already carried out works to improve their town centres, shoppers and future business investors are likely to go elsewhere.
”Think about the future”
“We also need to think about the future and with major developments like the new Beeston Tesco store on the horizon, alongside a possible redevelopment of The Square shopping centre, its important that the current heart of the town centre along the High Road, puts on its best face to make sure it remains an attractive place to shop whilst any works take place.”
The consultation has proved so successful, that people are being given further opportunities to comment. So those who were unable to visit the display on Saturday will be able to visit Beeston Library on Foster Avenue which will be hosting a display on the proposals from now until 13 June.
Information can also be found and comments made on the scheme on Broxtowe Borough Council’s website at www.broxtowe.gov.uk. Closing date for comments is Friday 13th June 2008.
