The Mayor will lead the short commemorative inter-faith event at 2pm and is inviting the public to join him at this important occasion. The theme for 2008 is ‘Imagine…. Remember, Reflect, React’ which provides a focus for people to think about the continuing implications of racism and intolerance that are manifest in society today.
Councillor Wombwell, said: “The event at Bramcote Hills Park is always a memorable one which leaves everyone present with a message that we have to work together to bring about peace and understanding in the world. We hope members of the community will join us”.
Memorial Day
Broxtowe Borough Council has held an event each year since 2001 in the Garden. National Holocaust Memorial Day commemorates the crimes against humanity committed during the Holocaust and more recently in other areas such as Rwanda, Bosnia and Kosovo.
The Garden and Sculpture were dedicated as a reminder that these are issues for everyone to consider and of the contemporary relevance of an anti-racism, genocide and victimisation message and to promote a society free of the evils of prejudice.
