Home Safety Check for OAP's in Stapleford
11 June, 2008
Older people in Stapleford will feel safer in their homes after a visit from firefighters this Friday, June 13.In partnership with Nottinghamshire Police, a crew from Stapleford Fire Station will visit residents at Church Close sheltered accommodation, offering safety advice to prevent against slips, trips and falls as well as helping to improve fire safety in the home.
Home Safety Checks
Firefighters will carry out Home Safety Checks for residents, fitting free smoke alarms and looking at all aspects of safety. They will also fit special vibrating and flashing smoke alarms for people who are hard of hearing. The vibrating alarms can be kept under the pillow, and will alert a deaf or hard of hearing person if the smoke alarm is triggered while they are asleep.
Watch Manager Ray Burton has helped to organise the visit. He said: “Working with the local police beat manager we have identified that the elderly are one of our most vulnerable groups of people, particularly prone to slips, trips and falls, as well as crime and cooker fires.
”Reduce Injuries”
“Together, we aim to reduce injuries due to accidents and fire in the home, as well as trying to reduce the risk of criminals targeting the area. If any one is aware of any elderly and vulnerable people in their local area and they have concerns for their health and safety, please contact your local fire station so we can try to help by carrying out home safety checks.”
