Homelessness Charity gets grant of £212,000
16 April, 2008
Broxtowe Single Homeless Action Group has changed its name to Broxtowe Youth Homelessness. Coupled with a significant funding award from the Big Lottery Fund, this change puts the project on a strong footing for the future.
Broxtowe Youth Homelessness has been awarded £212,000 over three years by the Big Lottery Fund to prevent and tackle homelessness across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
Two new staff
This will enable them to bring in two new staff members who will work directly with schools and youth groups to spread awareness about homelessness and money management. BYH will also be providing support to parents of teenagers at risk of being asked to leave the family home.
Jenny Allen, Chair of the Management Committee, said: “Homelessness can have long-term implications for young people's health, education and employment prospects. We're delighted to receive this funding, which will enable us to extend our work to prevent homelessness across Broxtowe and the surrounding area.”
Kay Verity, Project Manager, added: 'We’re changing our name to better reflect the work we do. We aim to work with young people to prevent and tackle homelessness and our new name makes this clear straight away.”
