Large fire affects local businesses

15 May, 2008

A large fire at a scrap yard in the Dunkirk area has had a knock on effect for businesses.

Eight fire engines were called to Sims Metal on Harriman's Lane near the Showcase Cinema at around 3.20am on Thursday morning.

Many people woke up to find a huge black cloud of smoke over the area and commuters on the A52 reported smoke billowing into the air.

However, some local businesses were affected, including the Village Hotel at Chilwell, who were forced to close their Leisure Club due to a shortage of water.

Police said there was no danger to residents in the area as there were no chemicals on site.
