M1 roadworks update

11 February, 2008

Work has begun to reduce congestion and improve safety by widening the M1 between Junction 25 at Sandiacre and Junction 28 at Pinxton.

To limit any delays to drivers the Highways Agency will be keeping three lanes open in each direction during the day, and will not be using a contra-flow.

The layout of the southbound carriageway has been changed between junction 27 and junction 26 with the introduction of narrow lanes, no hard shoulder and a 24-hour 50mph speed limit for the safety of drivers and roadworkers.

Layout changed

The layout of the northbound carriageway will be changed from the night of Saturday, February 16, with the introduction of narrow lanes, no hard shoulder and a 24-hour speed limit for the safety of drivers and roadworkers. Average speed safety cameras are in operation between Junctions 26 and 27.

From Monday, February 11, there will be varying overnight single lane closures north and southbound between junction 25 and junction 28.

The M1 widening scheme is expected to continue until July 2010. The aim of the scheme is to reduce congestion, reduce accidents and to boost the region's economy.
