20 March, 2008
A street collection in Beeston on Saturday, March 15, raised a total of £710 for the Marie Curie Cancer Care.Marie Curie Cancer Care is one of the UK’s largest charities and was established in 1948 – the same year as the NHS – and this year marks its 60th anniversary.
Employing more than 2,700 nurses, doctors and other healthcare professionals, the charity expects to provide care to around 27,000 terminally ill patients in the community and in its hospices this year, along with support for their families.
The services of the charity always free of charge to patients and their families, which means that it needs to raise more than £115 million per year.
