Mother receives son's Military Cross

25 June, 2008

A Military Cross awarded to a soldier from Chilwell, who died while on active service, has been collected by his mother.

Susan Brelsford, of Chilwell, accepted the Military Cross, one of the highest military honours for gallantry, at a reception at Buckingham Palace.

Craig Brelsford, 25, was posthumously awarded the Military Cross for trying to save the life of Pte Johan Botha while serving in Afghanistan.

Both Sgt Brelsford, 25, and Pte Botha died while under fire from the Taliban in Helmand province, Afghanistan, last September.
