'Clubbie' Motorcycle Race Action
11 July, 2008
Event date: Saturday 12, July 2008 at 10:00 until Sunday 13, July 2008 at 00:00They may not be the household names of the sport, but that should take nothing away from the several hundred riders who will be providing the sporting thrills in two days of ‘clubbie’ motorcycle racing at Donington Park.
The action counts to championships organised by the Derby Phoenix Club in Saturday’s racing and then on Sunday to those run by the NG Road Racing organisation.
Daz Bellworthy will be the rider to watch in ‘big-bike’ action in the Phoenix race as he bids to extend his already sizeable advantage in the 1300cc Allcomers category, and amid a wide array of sporting machines including Formula 400 and Formula 600 the sidecars offer sporting thrills.
Major Stride
Tim Anthill and Heath Lane head the chase for the F1 crown, under pressure from Carl Parkinson, while in the F2 category, Dean Henry and Ian Smith should take another major stride to that title.
The highlight on Sunday afternoon will be the round of the 250GP ACU National Championship which features the on going scrap for supremacy between Ben Johnson, Bruce Dunn and Andrew Sawford.v Keen competition
The NG Club also have some keen competition in their Sound of Thunder series with four riders – Greg Gibson, James Parry, Andy Peck and Duncan Knox - at the sharp end of the action while Joe Symonds will be intent on tightening his grip on the Powerbike title and also making up the nine points deficit he has on Suzuki riding Michael Blank in the Phoenix Trowbridge Open.v On each day, racing follows morning practice, with adult admission, daily, priced £12 and children aged 15 years and under, accompanied by an adult, admitted free of charge.
