New Parking Enforcement to be introduced

21 February, 2008

Motorists who flout the law by parking badly or illegally will be fined, when new measures come into force.

And if the new scheme is successful one councillor says he will press ahead for the introduction of Residents Parking Permits in Stapleford.

On May 12, responsibility for Civil Parking Enforcement will transfer from the police to Nottinghamshire County Council and these duties will be carried out by the Nottinghamshire Parking Partnership.

A Parking Manager and Wardens will be responsible to Broxtowe Borough Council to enforce both on-street and off-street parking.

Ensure a consistent approach

Penalty Charge Notices (parking Tickets), issued by Parking Wardens, will be processed at a central office by the County Council who will ensure a consistent approach to challenges and representations.

Money raised from the Penalty Tickets will be will be used for enforcement and administration costs. Any surplus monies must be used for spending on highway improvements.

Proper use of Disabled Parking Permits

Wardens will also enforce the proper use of disabled parking bays and check that Blue Badge Disabled Parking Permits are not being abused.

When the new enforcement system becomes established the County Council has promised to consider the introduction of Resident Only Parking Schemes.

Parking Permits

There are many streets in Stapleford where residents have already indicated that they would welcome a Resident Parking Permit Scheme and when the time comes we will do a survey across the town.

Cllr. Brian Wombwell says “We receive numerous complaints about people abusing the parking laws and the only way we can tackle the problems is by robust enforcement.

“We have issued this notice in the hope that the public will co-operate by taking note of the changes so that local residents avoid getting fined.”
