No Christmas Lights in Trowell
07 November, 2007
At the October meeting, Trowell Parish Council voted not to erect any Christmas lighting displays around the parish.
In previous years five trees in the village have been lit with strings of pearlites.
However, new regulations have been introduced and to satisfy them the Council needs to move away from this type of display.
Decided to withdraw
It was decided to withdraw the lighting scheme this year to conserve funds to purchase a number of new static displays for lamp standards around the village, which will conform to the new requirements.
This will be a 12-month scheme which will hopefully come to fruition in time for Christmas 2008.
Light the Parish Hall
The council will continue to light the Parish Hall and its grounds, which are private property and not subject to the same highway regulations.
The lighting scheme here will be improved this year and it is hoped that the three cherry trees at the front of the Parish Hall will be incorporated in this new display.
A spokesman for Trowell Parish Council said: “The council apologises for the disappointment this will cause to villagers, but is sure that people will understand that the Council wishes to put on an attractive display for the village, and that the changeover will take time and money to arrange.”
