The Parish Church in Beeston is to undergo major restoration and development work.

St John the Baptist in Middle Street will be closed for six months and work will cost around £750,000.

The last service will take place on Sunday, September 2 after which work will begin in earnest.

Changes

The roof and stonework will be cleaned and repaired by experts.

A new vestry will be built as will a new two-storey area to be used by the Sunday School and Choir.

The pews will be replaced with chairs and a new underground heating system and new kitchen will be installed.

The pipe organ will be replaced with a digital one and an improved lighting and PA system installed.

The renovation will turn the church into a more suitable venue for community groups to meet and allow events to take place such as concerts.
