Plans to reduce plastic bags in Stapleford

03 June, 2008

Stapleford is hoping to become one of the first towns in Broxtowe Borough to look at reducing plastic bags in the town centre.

The idea originated from the Broxtowe Partnership Environmental Task Group and is fully supported by both Stapleford’s Regeneration Group and the Co-operative food store that are already offering its customers alternatives to plastic bags.

With more pressure on retailers to assess how they use disposable plastic bags this initiative is a perfect opportunity for Stapleford to lead the way by example.

Open Meeting

In order to get as many businesses as possible involved, an open meeting is to be held on Monday 9th June at 6pm at Stapleford Care Centre to discuss options and ideas to progress the project.

Businesses will be shown the impact that plastic bags are having on the environment as well as examples of what other towns have done to make this work.

It is hoped that the outcome of this campaign will encourage more shops to reduce their plastic bag use and to introduce a Stapleford “bag for life”.

For more information about the project or the open meeting, please contact Broxtowe Borough Councils Economic Development team on 0115 917 3989.
