Post Office Closures in NG9 Confirmed
13 December, 2007
Rylands and Bramcote Hills Post Offices will close.
“Rejected our attempt"
The news has been met with dismay from Broxtowe MP Nick Palmer, who said: “The Post Office has rejected our attempt to get them to reconsider the closure of Rylands and Bramcote Hills Post Offices.
“They do not give a detailed argument, but factors are likely to have been that the 'consumer watchdog' Postwatch did not support either appeal.
”Factual errors”
“The Rylands post office did not oppose closure; and that although we were able to show broad opposition to the closures, they have not accepted my claim that they made factual errors in assessing the ease of access to alternative post offices.
“I think they are wrong but I'm afraid they are an arms-length corporation and able to insist.
”Thank everyone involved”
“I'm sorry that I was unable to persuade them, but would like all the same to thank everyone who was involved in the effort, notably the Rylands Labour councillors: Frank Price, Steve Barber and Pat Lally and the Lib Dems and Conservatives who added their own petitions to ours in Bramcote.”
