02 January, 2008

poster-comp-winners Children in Broxtowe south have put pen to paper to design a poster about staying safe this Christmas.

Nearly 160 pupils, aged between 5-11 years old, entered the competition. One hundred and fifty eight entries were received from eight schools across the area - Albany Junior School, Beeston Fields Primary School, Bramcote Hills Primary School, Chetwynd Road Primary School, Fairfield Primary School, John Clifford Primary School, Rylands Junior School and Trent Vale Infant School.

Youth Issues Officer PC 2647 Karen Crane organised the competition to raise awareness of preventing theft and stealing at Christmas amongst the children and what they could do to prevent it.

She said: “The children were challenged to design a poster that included safety and prevention advice to stop thieves spoiling the festive season by stealing items of value to young people like MP3 players, bikes, mobile phones and computer consoles.”

The winners were:

• Ages 5-7 Alexander PRICE age 7 of Chetwyn Road Primary School.
• Ages 8-9 Laura TURNER age 9 of Beeston Rylands School.
• Ages 10-11 Tom GRIBBIN age 11 of Bramcote Hills Primary School.

The overall winner was: • Raneem ALKHATIB (female) age 11 of Beeston Fields Primary School.

They received their prizes, which included a toy digger, DVDs, vouchers for Tesco and Decathlon, keyrings, pencils, rulers, money tins, chocolates, wrist bands and a road safety DVD, at a presentation on Thursday, December 20 at Bramcote Hills Primary School.
