Broxtowe Borough Council received a total of 1,162 completed questionnaires designed to assess issues relating to the way parks and open spaces are managed, maintained and improved for the future.

They were then entered into a prize draw for garden centre vouchers.

The lucky winners who received their prize from the Mayor of Broxtowe Borough, Councillor Brian Wombwell at a presentation on Friday 1 November 2007 were:

• 1st Prize: £75.00 Mr & Mrs Boland, Chilwell
• 2nd Prize: £50.00 Mr & Mrs Green, Beeston
• 3rd Prize: £25.00 Mr & Mrs Stevenson, Newthorpe

The completed questionnaires are currently being analysed and will help formulate the new Open Spaces Strategy which will be completed later in the year.

Councillor Brian Wombwell, said: “We want to send a big thank you to everyone who took part.

“It is important that we have the public view on how we develop our parks and open spaces and the prize draw seems to have been a good incentive”.

The Council has been preparing its first Open Spaces Strategy to help shape the future of open spaces across the Borough over the coming years. It was then distributed to a number of households, sports clubs, schools, health centres and libraries across the Borough for park users to complete.

There was a separate draw for the schools that had taken part and Chetwynd Road Primary School in Toton won the prize of £100 towards sports equipment.
