Recycle your Christmas Tree

Brock and Brooke with Christmas Trees
Broxtowe Borough Council’s recycling mascots Brock and Brooke the badgers are asking the Borough’s residents to recycle their real Christmas trees this year using the garden waste collection scheme. The Council is arranging to collect real Christmas trees for recycling after 12th night utilising the monthly garden-recycling programme in January 2008.
In the UK over the Christmas period, over 8 million real Christmas trees will be brought, the majority of which will not be recycled.
Put them in the bin
Residents are being asked to either chop the trees and put them inside the green or brown lidded bins or for trees under 1.5 metres (5 foot) they can be left in a safe position at the side of the bin.
Collections in the south of the Borough will take place week commencing January 21 2008.
All these service improvements are aimed at further helping to push the Council’s recycling rate closer to the desirable 50% mark. It’s currently running at around 40%.
Make it a New Years resolution to reduce, re-use and recycle more of your waste.
