Remembrance Service in Stapleford

remambrance-stapleford Around 300 people assembled at the Walter Parker Memorial Square in Stapleford to remember the deaths of many townsfolk in two World Wars.

The band of the Boys and Girls Brigade led a Parade of Veterans, Air Cadets, Girls Brigade, Scouts Cubs Guides and Brownies through the town to the Memorial where the Mayor of Stapleford, Councillor Jackie Williams thanked those present for turning out on such a chill November morning.

The service was led by representatives of the Town’s Churches with hymns sung to the accompaniment of the Salvation Army Band.

’Act of Homage’ The Act of Homage was read by the Parade Commander, Flt Lt Allan Munns, Officer Commanding the town’s Air Cadet Squadron, 1360 Stapleford and Sandiacre, and one of the squadron’s cadets, Luke Woolhouse (15).

Following the service, the Mayor and leaders of the Town’s Combined Services Club and other civic and community leaders laid wreaths.

Former Cadet returned from Iraq Air Cadets of the squadron laid wreaths in Remembrance of all ex cadets who fell in wars and a wreath to the fallen Royal Air Force personnel was laid by Andy Seaton, a Royal Air Force Aircrew Sergeant and ex cadet from Stapleford and Sandiacre Squadron, who had returned home from his fifth tour in Iraq on the Saturday morning before remembrance day.

With the end of the service, the Parade reassembled and marched past the saluting base where the Mayor and civic dignitaries took the salute.
