Blood Pressure Testing event hailed a success

23 April, 2008

rotary-blood-pressure-event Last Saturday, April 19, may have been one of the coldest April days for many years yet it did not prevent 268 local residents from baring their arm in Beeston Square to have their blood pressure checked as part of the National Stroke Awareness campaign.

This was the fourth consecutive year that the Rotary Club of Beeston has organised this event and once again the support and response from the public has been overwhelming.

Of the total of 268, who participated, 48 were found to have abnormal readings and asked to make an appointment to see their G.P.

Blood Pressure measured regularly

The Stroke Association and Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland recommend that you have your blood pressure measured regularly to ensure you are in good health and to reduce the risk of a stroke.

Rotary President John Flynn said: “If through our effort we had made just one person aware of the risk, it would have been a job well done. The final results, however, show that we all need to be aware of the risk including those in the younger age groups.

“A big “thank you” must be extended to, the team of medically qualified personnel who voluntarily gave their time to help, and the Life Education Charity who loaned us two of their mobile classrooms to use as temporary surgeries. Without their help none of this would have been possible.”
