More 'RTC Days' to be held at Beeston Fire Station

Sixty students attended a Road Traffic Collision (RTC) day from various youth groups held at Beeston Fire Station earlier this year. The event which is just one of many held over the last few months aimed to raise awareness in young first time drivers (16-18) of the inherent dangers of driving, including vehicle related crime and unwanted peer pressure as wells as to promote safer use of transport, vehicle security and general road safety.
Raise Awareness
RTC days at Beeston Fire Station raise awareness of road safety for young drivers on the road. The events target audiences from the areas where high numbers of Road Traffic Collisions occur.
Based on service-mapped intelligence there has been an increase in the Broxtowe Borough area for incidents, fatalities and casualties from year 2006.
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service ran the Project, which was funded by the Broxtowe Borough Council Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership in partnership with Nottinghamshire Police, EMAS, Driving Standards Agency, Brake Reaction and Headway.

The Community Safety Officer for the South District of Nottinghamshire Station Manager John Mills said: "Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service is committed to reducing the number of fatalities and serious injuries on Nottinghamshire's roads.
“As part of this initiative Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service organises Road Traffic Collision Days in partnership with Police, EMAS, Driving Standards Agency, Headway and the Council's Road Safety Team. These days are designed to educate young adults and raise their awareness of the dangers of driving irresponsibly and the potential tragic consequences".
More RTC days at Beeston Fire Station are planned for the next school year as well as visits to local comprehensive schools to target 15-18 year olds.
