Safer Car Parks for NG9

28 March, 2008

safer-car-parks-beeston Car parks in the NG9 area could soon be among the safest in the country if one man has his way.

Crime Prevention Manager Peter Ainley will be tightening up security at public car parks across Broxtowe, Gedling and Rushcliffe after gaining a national certificate.

Following a training course with Greater Manchester Police, Peter is now an accredited assessor for the Safer Parking Scheme.

Initiative

The initiative is owned by the Association of Chief Police Officers, supported by the Home Office and managed by the British Parking Association.

Working with a BPA development manager, Peter will visit car parks and assess key security features, including lighting, surveillance, vehicular access and boundaries and fencing.

Car Park operators will also be asked to submit their management practises and any crime statistics.

”Reducing Crime and Fear of Crime"

Peter, who is based at Bingham, said: “The Safer Parking Scheme is an ACPO initiative aimed at reducing crime and the fear of crime in parking facilities.

“Once a car park operator meets the requirements of a risk assessment, I will be able to award the Park Mark®, giving them the Safer Parking status.

“These requirements mean the parking operator has put in place measures that help to deter criminal activity and anti-social behaviour, thereby doing everything they can to prevent crime and reduce the fear of crime in their parking facility.”
