Scouts in world-wide Promise event
26 July, 2007
Members from around the world will join together at 8am local time in every time zone around the world to celebrate the dawn of a new century of Scouting.
Scouts in Beeston will gather at Dovecote Lane recreation ground at 7.45am to renew their Promise at 8am.
District Commissioner for the South West Notts Scouts, Trevor Robinson said: “All members of Scouting, past and present, are welcome to join in with the Scouts throughout the world in renewing their Scouting Promise at 8am at Dovecote Lane Recreation Ground, Beeston, as part of the centenary celebrations of Scouting.
“There are currently 28 million Scouts in 210 countries worldwide and it is the largest co-educational youth movement in the world, far removed from when Baden Powell set up his experimental camp for 20 boys on Brownsea Island.
“It’s impossible to imagine how many people might take part in this event. Let’s make a big contribution to the number in South West Notts, and then join other activities – climbing, tubing, football, a magician, and lots of Scouting challenges.”
