Cyclists get School Smoothie

04 July, 2007

Students at Bramcote Hills Sport and Community College were delighted to be able to raise awareness in attempting to improve the environment in an extremely novel way.

Having gained County Council approval for a School Travel Plan 18 months ago and built a new cycle compound on the school campus to encourage cycling, the students, working with the Notts County Council School Travel adviser, continue to promote cycling to school to reduce traffic congestion locally.

To help in getting the message across, a cycle, adapted to produce ‘smoothie’ drinks was on site for the day, producing cold fruit smoothie drinks as a reward for those who cycle to the College.

Each student cycling to school was given a voucher upon arrival at the start of the day, which was ‘cashed in’ at lunch-time, enabling the student to ride the ‘smoothie bycycle’ producing refreshing banana and strawberry drinks!

Marius Conway – Jones a Year 10 student said “What a great idea! Having one of these ‘drinks cycles’ at the College will definitely encourage more people to take up the healthy option of cycling to school.”

Business Manager, Nick Allcoat supervised operations, with all of the students commenting that it was a great incentive for both exercising and adopting a healthy drinking approach.
