Drivers complete second round in great form
28 April, 2008
Rally Driver John Pearson and his co driver Calvin Houldsworth competed on the second round of the Btrda Rally first championship starting and finishing at the Butlins complex in Minehead, Somerset on Saturday April 26. The event used forests around the seaside village and the famous Porlock hill climb to make up a testing route for the competitors.
The Crew sponsored by Little Drivers Soft Play Centre, in Stapleford were one of 133 crews to start the event on the Saturday morning in their Vauxhall Astra 1400cc car and finishing the event in a respectable 75th overall and 5th Rally first home the valuable points scored leaves the crew in strong championship positions with John 4th in the rally first drivers championship and Calvin in 3rd place in the respective co-drivers standings.
Local event
With the next round being the crew’s local event in the North Nottinghamshire forests on June 14, some local knowledge may play a part assisting with the championship standings.
John said: "I was happy with the performance but a little extra power from the car would have been nice with the hills on the event.
“We lost 20-30 seconds on a couple of stages to a couple of our championship rivals with smaller and lighter 1400cc cars, but the wider more stable car worked well on some of the fast sections.
Overall in the championship we are competing against some very experienced and talented company so to be were we are in the standing is great."
