One of County's oldest residents dies

26 July, 2007

One of Nottinghamshire’s oldest residents has passed away.

Gladys Brook died peacefully at the Queenswood Methodist Home in Chilwell on July 4 - a month after celebrating her 107th birthday.

Born near Huddersfield, she was the eldest of five children. After leaving school she worked in the textile industry before her marriage to Bill in 1921.

Widowed more than half a century ago, Gladys moved to Nottingham with her employers where she worked as a housekeeper and nurse.

She moved into Queenswood Methodist Home in 1977, where she enjoyed an active life walking, playing bowls, and snooker.
