Woman assaulted in Stapleford

Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault which happened in Stapleford in the early hours of Saturday, August 25.

A woman, who is in her early 40s, was walking home after a night out with friends at the Magpie Public House, when she was assaulted at about 0030 hours.

The woman had walked along Toton Lane, turned right onto New Eaton Road and had reached the junction of Rossell Drive when she was grabbed from behind and forced onto the pavement.

The woman managed to fight off her assailant and run away. She sustained heavy bruising to her face and was shaken by the incident but did not require hospital treatment.

The male offender wore a hooded top, which was pulled up.

Pc 2020 Shaun Foster, who is investigating the incident, says: “Thankfully the woman’s quick reactions meant she was not more seriously injured.

“We would like to hear from anyone who may have noticed someone acting suspiciously on Toton Lane or New Eaton Road in the early hours of Saturday morning.
