Stapleford could lead 'plastic bag free' way

22 April, 2008

stapleford-plastic-bag-free Stapleford could lead the way by adopting a ‘plastic bag free’ policy in its shops.

The idea was put forward at the April meeting of the Stapleford Regeneration Group.

Andy Pooley the Community Development Officer from Broxtowe Borough Council, gave a presentation which showed the reality of plastic bag usage not only in this country but throughout the World.

Proved Successful

He told the group that some towns in the UK have already adopted a plastic bag free approach and have proved successful.

However, there are currently no other towns in the area that have looked at this idea. And it was put to the group whether or not they felt it would be a good idea to explore for Stapleford.

A spokesman for the Stapleford Regeneration Group said: “Not only would it save businesses money in the long run but would be a great selling point for the town.

”Taken Forward"

“It was agreed that this should be taken forward and the idea to be put to the businesses of the town.

“A ‘Shop in Stapleford’ bag would be a great promotion for the town.

"It is hoped to arrange an open meeting to discuss this further and approach the businesses in the town with more information."
