A stray dog, found curled up in a ball cold and shivering on an old mattress that had been ‘fly tipped’ along with other rubbish, is at the forefront of a campaign to promote responsible dog ownership.

Blake, a German Shepherd cross, was very frightened of people and it took Broxtowe Borough Council’s Neighbourhood Warden over three hours to finally secure him after he caused chaos running scared on busy roads.

Provided with loving care

The dog has been taken to Babbington Hall Rescue Kennels where he is being provided with the loving care that he deserves.

With the new name of Blake it his hoped he will soon regain his strength as he has a good appetite, gained lots of confidence and become more trusting of people.

Promoting responsible dog ownership

Broxtowe Borough Council’s Neighbourhood wardens are promoting responsible dog ownership and reminding people that dog ownership should not be entered into lightly as the average dog can live to 15 years.

It is important to think carefully before getting a pet and learn about all its requirements to provide a happy healthy life.

The wardens have seen an increase in the number of dogs being dumped at the side of busy roads recently and Blake has been one of the lucky ones that has not been injured or killed.
